Hi, After a long struggle due to obsolete equipment I have got Safesky working perfectly by getting an iPhone to run it and display the traffic in Skydemon on an iPad. Watching the traffic zooming around, I suddenly noted that my “aircraft” is correctly shown stationary on the ground at the location of my kitchen table in my house, which is … errr …. in Farnborough’s CTR! I have read since that Safesky can transmit but only to those using safesky or OGN, but possibly stops transmitting when it sees you have been stationary for a minute. Please, it is extremely unwise to test safesky to get it going on your kitchen table, in my case inside a CTR or is it really fine? I don’t know what data Farnborough look at but they do have Odiham and Lasham gliders near their airspace.
Hi @Woolfy,
SafeSky does indeed transmit your position via the mobile network once you press “Take Off”, making your location visible to other SafeSky users. However, if your aircraft remains stationary, the app includes an automatic shutdown feature: it will stop sharing your position after 10 minutes of no movement. This is specifically designed to avoid situations like yours, where a stationary aircraft might appear active in sensitive areas like a CTR.
So, while it’s not dangerous to test SafeSky from your home—even within a CTR—the best practice is to avoid activating “Take Off” unless you’re actually flying.
Thank you, Vincent. James
