Problem with Skydemon and Safesky/Skyecho on Android

Hello,

I use Safesky together with SkyDelomon and now also Skyecho.

On the iPad it works well: if I connect both Skydemon and Safesky with the Skyecho as the GPS source, I can see the traffic from both Safesky and Skyecho.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t work on the S25 Android. I only see the Skyecho planes in Skydemon. If I add Safesky in split screen, I see the traffic there but NOT in Skydemon.

The problem is that Android also has an issue because the Skyecho’s Wi-Fi doesn’t provide internet and doesn’t simply use 5G mobile like in iPad.

What can I do?

Hello haasp,

SkyEcho uses its WIFI connection to communicate with the Android device running SkyDemon.

When the WIFI connection is established it stops data flow via the smartphone’s mobile data path, which Safesky requires. It is a feature/issue with the Android operating system.

I read somewhere that a Pixel phone doesn’t have this issue, though I haven’t been able to prove this myself.

Due to this issue I now have the Aero Tracker which works very well. It connects to Android using blue tooth. I no longer use my SkyEcho.

Hope this helps.

Tony

Hi

and there is no workaround?

Not really. I did try experimenting with Speedify, an app that aggregates Android WIFI and mobile data, but I couldn’t get it to work properly. It also added another layer of complexity regarding getting SafeSky, SkyEcho and SkyDemon all working together.

The Safesky technical team did try to find a solution, but without success.

Apparently, with older versions of the Android OS, it was possible to have both mobile data and WIFI working together. However, the later Android OS versions stopped this working.

Hello haasp.

What Tony writes about Android stopping data flow on the mobile connection when wifi is connected to SkyEcho2, is correct for Samsung devices. I tested on a Levovo Android as well as on a Xiaomi device, and on both it was possible to access the internet even when the wifi was connected to SkyEcho2. To me it looks like a Samsung-Problem. At least, that were my observations.

Kind regards, Gilbert

Thanks Gilbert for that information.

At least Android users now have a solution if they want to use their SE2 and SafeSky.

Hi all.

One more thing to mention, just to be precise. Beside the the wifi connection to SE2, of course “mobile data” must be enabled in parallel to WLAN. (worked on lenovo and xiaomi)

As said, I could not make that work on Samsung-devices and not even Samsung-support could help me.

Enjoy flying,

Gilbert
