Whats the logic behind +/- in radar screen?

Ladies and gentlemen,

I cannot wrap my head around the logic of the plus and minus buttons in the radar screen. For me, they are just wrong.

Logic 1: plus increases, minus decreases display range? Nope, works just the other way round.

Logic 2: plus gives me more overview, minus less? Nope, neither this.

So what is the logic behind the plus/minus buttons in the radar screen?

Thank you very much for giving me a memorable explanation.

Peter

From the documentation:

Radar zoom

Press “+” and “-” to decrease or increase the visible traffic distance on the radar. There are 7 zoom levels with the following scales:

  • Up to +/- 0.5 nautical mile, or +/- 1 km

  • Up to +/- 1 nautical mile, or +/- 2 km

  • Up to +/- 2 nautical miles, or +/- 5 km

  • Up to +/- 5 nautical miles, or +/- 10 km

  • Up to +/- 10 nautical miles, or +/- 20 km

  • Up to +/- 20 nautical miles, or +/- 40 km

  • Up to +/- 40 nautical miles, or +/- 80 km

I would say, the logic is + means more zoom and - less zoom.

I don’t really disagree! Let’s see what the Safesky development team have to say…

Peter,

When I run SafeSky, and display the radar page, when I click on “+” , it reduces the radius of the range rings. When I click on “-” it increases the range ring distance.

I think it is working okay, as clicking on “+” is zooming in on a smaller geographical area displayed by the radar display.

Clicking on “-” is zooming out as a larger geographic area is displayed.

I think that is correct…
