Traffic sharing in hotspot mode doesn't work

Hello together,
I am a premium user of SafeSky and I am running SafeSky on a phone in hotspot mode and VFRnav on a tablet without SIM card. I want to share traffic between SafeSky and VFRnav. This works pretty good when phone and tablet are connected to the same WLAN network. But as soon as I use the phone as a hotspot it doesn’t work any more. Can you give me some hints how to solve this?
Best regards
Markus

Hi @Markus111,

What you’re experiencing is a known limitation with some hotspot configurations—especially on iOS—which can block UDP traffic needed for SafeSky to share data with VFRnav.

To solve this:

  1. On the SafeSky app, go to Settings > Traffic Sharing and disable Automatic Software Detection. Then, manually enter your tablet’s IP address and use port 4000.
  2. Some users have had better results switching their mobile network APN settings to IPv4 instead of IPv6.
  3. Alternatively, running both apps on the same device avoids the need for network sharing.

Let us know if it helps!

Hi Vincent,
thanks for your reply. I 've tried your suggestions, unfortunately without success. I have a Samsung A51 phone and a Xiaomi Pad 7 tablet with an external bluetooth GPS Receiver. Of course, running both apps on the same device would be the best, but doesn’t work either, because SafeSky isn’t running on the Xiaomi Pad 7. Do you have more hints for me? Best regards, Markus

Since you’re already using a Bluetooth GPS receiver, that part seems covered. The issue may stem from the Samsung A51’s hotspot, which might be restricting UDP traffic — we’ve seen similar behaviour on certain devices, though it’s not always consistent.

If possible, you could try using a different phone as a hotspot, or connect both devices to a standard Wi-Fi network (like a portable router), which might offer more stable traffic sharing…

Hope this helps, but don’t hesitate to share more details if you’re still stuck.
