That is a very good idea! Someone on the French SafeSky forum was looking for a way to indicate when they were active/flying at their aeromodelling site.

This could well be the solution to their problem..

This is a very creative use of SS! Like it a lot and hope the gliding community picks up on this as well

What you can also do, and can perhaps be more reliable is to setup the device such that when the winch is active, a device will enable a marker fixed at altitude and to transmit that on multiple protocols. I have created a device that can send out on ADSL, OGN, FLARM and FANET to cover as many protocol as possible but also the SoftRF version of moshe (much better version that the original from Linar) can setup fixed beacons.

This device will be placed on the winch, and not on the cable itself. Power supply and all that will be much much easer. The you will have a beacon that is always on.

I can help with the device I made.. my software GitHub - rvt/openace: Conspicuity device with support for ADS-L, OGN, FLARM for General Aviation GitHub - moshe-braner/SoftRF: ✈ Multifunctional, compatible DIY general aviation proximity awareness system
