I’ve just received a free Safeskypremium trial … valid only until 12/5/24 (offer received on 30/4/24 at 15:30 French time)!
That’s nice, but …
I really wonder which category of pilots Safesky is aimed at?
Do you think that federating only pilots who own their own aircraft (the only ones who fly more than 20 hours a year in France) will make your application safe?
I don’t think so.
In France, the majority of VFR pilots fly in aeroclubs, and the average annual flight time is just over 10 hours.
So I don’t see how SafeskyPremium can be tested over a period as short as 12 days (especially as the current weather in France is not at all favourable to VFR).
So Safesky, if you REALLY want your application to take off, stop being so stingy! … and offer a free full trial for at least 6 months!!! … no pain, no gain …
On the other hand, I don’t think the Safesky community is growing fast enough for the application to work properly (is it safe to have only 10-20% of the traffic on your screen? reality in the Lyon region … and often with contacts with folkloric positioning … I’ve noted position differences of 0.5Nm between the Safesky position and the actual position of the aircraft … so you’re looking for a visual in one place when the aircraft is elsewhere).
The Safesky idea is a good one, but the application needs to make progress (community and coverage).
Been using it a lot - no particular problems. My VFR flights are mostly below 3000 fet so phone network coverage is fine. My question is what do you mean by 10 to 20 % traffic coverage?
I have to confirm that even with slow paramotors the position of other pilots is often severly delayed. I see that Safesky (besides it’s own app) has integrations with other apps that use internet based position sharing (i.e. XCGuide and XCTrack). Congartulations for that.
I think it is very important that you do not go down the same road as FLARM did, they have used other open source/public projects to grow their user base to later block out veryone not willing to pay for their overpriced hardware and license fees.
