I am a great fan of Safesky and try to get all my felow pilots to actively use Safesky so we can get the most out of it. In my region north west of Norway SS does not show ADSB traffic that has altitude less than 10-12000 feet even though it shows on Flightradar 24. Is this because of to few ground stations or has it something to do with protocolls. ADSL is showing up on SS as normal. Next picture under “reply”

It would be of great help if we could figure out what it takes to get Safesky to show the targets just like Flightradar 24.

Hi,

If anyone is located in the area you could try setting up a ground station. All that is needed is a raspberry pi, a 1090 usb receiver and an antenna (with a good view of the sky. And Internet connection of course.

I beleive safesky takes data from [Adsb.fi](https://Adsb.fi) and a few other sources.

The easiest setup i have found is [Adsb.im](https://Adsb.im) which will forward to multiple sites.

There is a fr24 site nearby, but safesky do not use their data.

Hello @jonpalms ,

Thanks a lot for your encouragement with the SafeSky project.

FR24 operates a distinct ground station network, which SafeSky does not have access to.

To enhance coverage, we suggest installing a plug-and-play station from [Avionix](https://www.safesky.app/en/post/safesky-avionix-and-open-glider-network-partner-to-develop-the-most-advanced-ground-traffic-recepti) at your club, or setting up a DIY station using Raspberry Pi to feed the [ADSB.FI](https://adsb.fi/) network.

Alternatively, you could contact the pilot who installed the FR24 receiver and request them to install an additional script to simultaneously feed both the FR24 and [ADSB.FI](http://ADSB.FI) networks.

I hope this information is helpful.

Fly Safe,

Tristan

Hi

Thank you for this clearification. I understand that ADSB-FI is different from FR24. I look into building a groundstation using the Raspberry Pi. Numerous videos on Youtube show ho easy it is. Hoewer they mostly talk about using the FlightAware Pro Stick Plus in combination with the RB.Pi. Example [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW1MmFpdm8U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW1MmFpdm8U)

Question will this setup feed the [ADSB.FI](http://ADSB.FI) network?

If not, what kind of setup is required with the RB.Pi to make the traffic show on [ADSB.FI](http://ADSB.FI) and on Safesky

Best regards Jon Palmstrøm

Hello,

yes, the hardware from the video should work, or use this reference: [Build your own ADS-B receiver - Pi24 client for flight tracking | Flightradar24](https://www.flightradar24.com/build-your-own)

The only difference to feed [adsb.fi](http://adsb.fi) is that you should also add their script, and you will feed both networks: [GitHub - adsbfi/adsb-fi-scripts: Feed adsb.fi using an existing receiver running readsb / dump1090 / piaware / Raspbian / Linux](https://github.com/adsbfi/adsb-fi-scripts)

They also have a discord active channel where you can ask questions: [adsb.fi community](https://discord.gg/mzRugsPSEF)

In short, feeding [adsb.fi](http://adsb.fi) will contribute directly to ADS-B and Mode-S traffic in SafeSky.

Hope this helps,

Fly Safe,

Tristan

Hi

I have now build a groundstaion (raspberryPi) to receive data in both FR24 and Skyaware and installed the script to feed the [ADSB.fi](http://ADSB.fi)

I am happy to say it works perfect with both platforms. Now Safesky follows ADSB traffic significantly lower than before in my region (north west Norway)

Next step is to relocate it to the nearest high mountain to get even better coverage.

Thank you for a great system.

Hi Jon,

Glad to see it’s all working perfectly.
As part of our next newsletter, we’d like to publish a photo of your installation to document our post.
If it’s OK with you, can I ask you to send this photo to ingrid@safesky.app?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

After installing this RaspberryPi ground receiver on top of my roof and feeding [ADSB.fi](http://ADSB.fi) I manage to improve low level cover of adsb traffic on Safesky (from 12000 feet to appr 4000 feet) into ENOV wich is home airfield for the flying club, even if the antenna is quite far from the airfield. Also further north where I live close to ENAL the level of coverage has increased significantly. Im not yet done with my project. My goal is to put one RP groundstation to a tower near our airfield ENOV and another close to ENAL so that adsb coverage becomes even better.

This shows how effective even just a few stations are to improve Safesky when it comes to ADSB traffic fed to [ADSB.fi](http://ADSB.fi)

Hi @jonpalms

It’s great to see these images, and what’s more … you’re greatly improving low-level traffic coverage.
You’ve obviously got it right, the terrain has a significant impact on traffic reception, because radio has, and always will have, a visual range!
The idea of placing an antenna (or even several!) on the aerodrome site itself will certainly greatly improve traffic visibility, and therefore increase flight safety.
All that remains is for pilots to use an eConspicuous system… but that’s education.

Well done !!

Hi

Today I experience differences in presentation of data on Safesky. In my area ENOV and ENAL the targets fail to show up on Safesky even if they appear in [ADSB.FI](http://ADSB.FI).

Is there any natural explanation to this?

Enclosed screenshot from my phone showing the situation in my area.

Best regards

Jon Palmstrom
