Hi,

I am trying to understand whether, if I use the safesky app on my Android smartphone when flying, I will be seen by glider pilots using flarm receivers?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Hi @mikeatinto ,

Unfortunately no, if you’re flying with only the SafeSky app on your Android smartphone, glider pilots using FLARM receivers won’t see you. FLARM devices detect only other FLARM signals, and the app doesn’t transmit on that protocol. 🙂

Vincent, thanks for your reply, the whole electronic conspicuity thing seems very complicated just now.
Cheers

Mikeatino,

The simplest way to look at this is that the SafeSky concept is, generally, a RECEIVER of EC signals (Mode S/ ADS-B Out/FLARM/other protocols). The one exception is if the “other” glider/aircraft/paraglider etc. also has the SafeSky app running. The SafeSky app also functions as a transmitter of GPS position, so other SafeSky users will detect SafeSky equipped aircraft.

Hope this helps..
